Now that we’re approaching the end of the season with around 20 games left per team, let’s have a look back and see how the top 3 draft picks have done in their first year in the NBA.

  1. ANTHONY EDWARDS

Anthony Edwards (Ant-man), the 19 year old shooting guard from Atlanta Georgia, was drafted first in this years draft by the Minnesota Timberwolves. Although the Timberwolves aren’t having the best season, Edwards is averaging 17.9 Points, 4.4 Rebounds, 2.6 Assists and 1.1 Steals per games as well as being the teams 3rd highest averaging scorer this season, behind only Karl-Anthony towns and D’Angelo Russell.

So far, Edwards has played 53 games and had multiple stand out moments including the 18th of March against the Phoenix Suns where he balled out to end the game with a season high of 42 points! Edwards has been a great pick for the Timberwolves and we all look forward to seeing him continue to play in his promising career.

2. JAMES WISEMAN

James Wiseman (Big Ticket) is the 20 year old center from Nashville Tennessee. He was drafted 2nd by the Golden State Warriors. Wiseman has played 38 games for the Warriors so far after missing 11 games in February due to a wrist injury. None the less, Wiseman has made his presence known while on the court, averaging 11.6 Points and 5.9 Rebounds per game. A highlight of Wiseman’s season would be his game on the 27th of January where he notched a season high 25 points in 24 minutes against the Timberwolves. He continues to help the Warrior’s fight for a spot in the ‘Play in Tournament’ and with support & influence from players like Draymond Green, Steph curry and coach Steve Kerr, I think we can all agree that Wiseman is only going to continue to improve as a big-man in the league.

3. LAMELO BALL

LaMelo Ball is the 19 year old 6'6 point guard from Anaheim California. LaMelo has had an interesting history playing Basketball in both Australia and Lithuania before joining the league and ultimately being drafted 3rd by the Charlotte Hornets. Ball has had an excellent rookie year helping his team win games and currently sit 4th in the Eastern Conference. Unfortunately, Ball suffered a broken wrist on March 20th and hasn't been able to play since but some people still think he deserves the ‘Rookie Of The Year award’ and it’s not hard to see why when you take a look at his numbers. LaMelo was averaging 15.9 Points, 5.9 Rebounds, 6.1 Assists and 1.6 Steals per game as well as already having 7 Double Doubles and 1 Triple Double through out the 41 games he has played this season. His passing and playmaking ability makes him a menace on the court and we can’t wait for him to make his return.

These young players have extreme potential to make a big impact on the league and we look forward to watching them all progress in the careers.
